Summer Boating - The Next 5 Weeks

We had plans to make our leisurely way to an anchorage we have yet to visit by boat - one of our favorite places - Watmough Bight, on Lopez Island. This lovely little cove is on the southern tip of the island and is not really on the way anywhere, given our usual routes. ( We planned to go through Deception Pass, not typical for us.) After checking weather and wind, Nick changed our itineary to take advantage of a window to get across Rosario Straight.

So, ToG traveled 50 miles yesterday (8 hours) to get from the Foss to Langley. On to Cap Sante (Anacortes) today, and then across to the islands tomorrow to beat the coming winds. This is more than we like to do in a day but it wasn't too bad. Wind picked up north of Edmonds and it got a bit bumpy, but generally a nice cruise, if a bit lengthy.

The Nimitz passed us...always fun to see. Get this. A passing fishing boat hailed the aircraft carrier to ask how close he could get for a photo. Seriously?!
We hailed Harbormaster Patrick Boin as we arrived at Langley Small Boat Harbor and were told our slip assignment was M1. We knew this was inside the inner breakwater, but were unclear as to the exact location. Fortunately, Patrick was on hand to guide us in. Tight quarters! Look forward to a later report regarding how the heck we get out of here:
As Patrick told us last time we were here, the opening of crab fishing really impacts the number of boats using this marina. As we relaxed on the upper deck with a glass of wine after our long day, we were somewhat horrified to watch several small boats come in and out, apparently operated by people who don't know much about handling their boats. (The people whose steering cable had broken get a pass.) It would have been comical but it really wasn't. At least one person was clearly inebriated. Several boats were "bumped" into, and many made several attempts before getting safely to the dock. Kind of a shit show. We didn't see any sign of damage or injury...thankfully.
