Ren is Born! And a first cruise...

Ren decided to be born on his own time and we welcomed the new little guy on the morning of March 30. We took care of big brother Mac for a few days as the family got settled.

Dinghy pick-up was rescheduled for today, so after giving Mac back to his family on Thursday, we loaded up more gear and headed to the marina. We spent a few hours getting more of our stuff on board and organized, cleaning and covering fenders, and cutting the piece of memory foam for our bed. The electric kitchen knife I borrowed from my sis worked like a champ (just like everyone said it would) and we now have a much more comfortable sleeping situation. (Now I have to figure out a long-term solution for better fitting sheets. Plenty of time for that…)

Spent Thursday night on the boat, in our slip, to get used to everything. Cold!

We headed to Gig Harbor first thing this morning to pick up Touch of Gray’s tender. (I exited the slip with a little more finesse than the first time – under ideal conditions.) This dinghy is an AB Lamina ALX, 10 feet, with an aluminum hull, console steering, and a 20hp Tohatsu outboard. We hopped on board to take her for a quick sea trial – got up on plane easily and smoothly after we exited the harbor. We’re very pleased so far, although had to call the seller back to the dock when Nick noticed a sheen and steady drip of oil! Turns out the oil filter was not tightened firmly at the factory.

We spent some time figuring out how to load the dinghy on the davit system – fairly straight forward and a simple job for the two of us. Still a process like with the old boats, but much easier…and Nick no longer has to haul the outboard on and off!

We took her for a slow spin around the harbor this afternoon, enjoying a little sunshine and the usual Gig views.
