A Day of Favorites

With Patrick walking our bow line down the dock to facilitate a pivot...and zero breeze...Nick easily  backed ToG out of our tight spot at Langley. We cruised through the Swinomish Channel to Anacortes - it felt kind of strange to not be stopping in La Conner - not sure we've gone straight through before.

ToG spent an uneventful night in Cap Sante marina after letting them know that we didn't want to be on the south side of C dock - based on past experience with the fishing/crabbing boats coming and going. They moved us to E dock...much better.

The commercial crabbing industry is really a crazy force in this area in season.

Crossing Rosario Straight was smooth and we arrived in Fisherman Bay (Lopez Island) Saturday, anchoring ToG in her "usual" place. Right next to the seaplane zone:

Yesterday was a day of favorites. We loaded our ebikes on the dinghy (very doable!) and visited Shark Reef, Agate Beach, Iceberg Point, and Watmough Bight. The new bikes performed well...batteries running out just at the big hill returning to Fisherman Bay. Ugh. Not bad though.

New "loop" path install at Shark Reef.

On the way back out to the road:

Current ripping through Cattle Pass from Shark Reef (boats chose to go out anyway):

A beautiful sunny Sunday in July and we were the only people on Agate Beach:
Beautiful path out to Iceberg Point:

Watmough was a little crowded but I found a spot in the shade between groups of people:

A bit quirky on the island, as usual:

Quite a day!

Nick and I talked about the state of Lopez Village...it's not good but will hopefully improve and regain some of its former glory. Holly B's Bakery is for sale, again. The Galley restaurant is facing major challenges and is still far from reopening. Other businesses have reduced services...common in this post-Covid world. Bucky's closed, for some reason. The Blue Heron Bistro, in the former Bucky's space, looks ready to open any minute. There were certainly more shops back in the day when we used to camp at Spencer Spit. It must be tough to operate a successful business on an island with seasonal activity.

Monday morning is calm and lovely. We plan to take a paddle and then head out around noon when the tide is high enough to make it back out of the channel.
