Changes at Blake Island Marine Park

My apologies for previous duplicate posts – I am experiencing some technical difficulties.

We had a beautiful first cruising day yesterday, traveling from the Foss to Blake Island. Sun was out, water was calm, and there were very few boats out there. We left early, thinking Blake would fill up on a lovely Friday. We were surprised to find only two boats at the marina when we arrived, one being the very helpful host. A few more arrived by nightfall, but still mostly empty.

We ate lunch atop ToG, making use of our new teak furniture…quite comfortable…then took a walk to the West Campground.

It rained all night!

We chatted with the host yesterday about the future of this beautiful park. With the loss of Argosy Cruises as the concessionaire for Tillicum Village, the parks department is taking time to collect public input and make decisions about what to do. Read about this and provide input here. This is also one of the topics in the most recent Waggoner newsletter.

Unfortunately, the grounds are already looking a bit worse for wear.

The host also told us that an Eagle Scout built this new fence around the Ranger’s quarters.

The usual geese (lots of them and very noisy), but only one gosling. (Host told us there were three a few days ago.) Eagles (hence the reduced number of goslings!), and deer. Oh, and raccoons of course!

The rain has stopped…for the time being…but it is foggy. We’ll head for Poulsbo at some point today.
