Update as 2021 comes to an end...

Thinking about living aboard a boat full-time for the past couple of months allowed us to get that out of our systems. We didn’t quickly find a boat that fit the bill, and we became reluctant to extend our search into unknown brands.

One reason for considering the full-time liveaboard lifestyle is that I have become a bit tired of where we live now, in downtown Tacoma. We’ve been here 15 years and it’s been wonderful…but I am ready for a change. Nick…not as much, but he got used to the idea of trying something new.

We quickly found something we like just 4.3 miles away at Pt. Ruston on the Tacoma waterfront. A nice condo, just about the same size as our current townhome, but all on one level. At some point we will try to moor our boat right there at one of the marinas or the TYC.

The next couple of months will keep us very busy downsizing and packing. We do have plans to meet some new boating friends on New Year’s Eve, weather dependent, but we may not get out much for a while. We cancelled plans to meet Stay Awhile in Gig Harbor for the boat parade this past Saturday because the weather was lousy. We may be able to take in the parade on the Foss this Saturday – we’ll see.

If all goes according to plan, this will be our new view of Commencement Bay and the old Pt. Ruston ferry, with Mt. Rainier off to the right:

The good news is that we keep Touch of Gray and begin to make some improvements to make her even better for future cruising. We are in touch with a company in La Conner for a Bimini, dodger, dinghy cover, and window shades.

ToG waiting out the winter months in her home berth:
