Summer Cruise 2021 | Days 36 & 37 | Blind Bay

ToG left Friday Harbor after going back and forth with our itinerary. Nick's sister Kit is trying to relocate to the islands and we were in a position to look at a house on her behalf - that fell through. So we spent just one night...mostly to reprovision.

(Reminder to ourselves to visit Alistair at Camp Colvos Brewing in Tacoma. He was on the Nordic Tug next to us and got married at the park that afternoon!)

Blind Bay has been on our list of places to visit for awhile. So we made our way here yesterday. This bay on the northern side of Shaw Island is larger than we thought and surrounded by beautiful vistas. (Over 50 boats at anchor.) We aren't far from the Shaw ferry terminal, and the Orcas terminal is just on the other side of the very tiny Blind Island.

We took the dinghy out after we arrived yesterday...just in time to see a few orcas go by! We made our way to the dinghy dock, and to the small and well-provisioned general store. We saw Geoff, who we met through a friend of the family, and his partner Nicole. Her family runs the store and ferry landing.

We also zipped across the channel to the public dock to visit Orcas Village.

The local artwork is impressive:

It was nice and calm last night...and very quiet.

We are unsure of our itinerary from here. It is time to begin making our way south, aiming to be home on the 18th.

5 crabs caught near Roche:

Nick signaling his catch - a time-honored tradition:

Sometimes our boat seems big, and sometimes it doesn't...especially when tucked in with bigger boats:
