Summer Cruise 2021 | Days 30 - 33 | Still in Semiahmoo

We set out yesterday morning for Bellingham. We figured we might run into some rough water...and decided it was worth a try. It was a bit lumpy passing by Birch Bay, with increasing chop due to approaching waves and opposing wind. The wipers were running continually and things were moving around the boat, inside and out. Approaching Cherry Point, we noticed a small boat, that had passed us earlier, turnaround and head back. Not a good sign. Nick estimates 4 foot waves...I'm going to say 4 to 6, easy.

We hit one wave particularly hard and came crashing down enough to make everything that wasn't nailed down "jump"...and us very uncomfortable. We turned around.

The ride back was reasonably smooth as we went north with the wave motion. Fortunately, a call to the marina ensured our slip would still be available over the coming days until we feel conditions are okay. We may change our destination as well.

Another thing happened during that aborted attempt to move on...I got a bit 🤢. This hasn't happened to me since beginning to cruise, a person who often experiences all kinds of motion sickness. Sure, I've gotten slightly queasy a couple of times but this time I was really feeling it. Thankfully, it was short-lived.

As I've mentioned, we enjoy this location so being "stuck" here is no big deal. We took another trip into Blaine, visited Tor at The Tiny Taproom again, and tried once again to eat at the seafood restaurant. Wednesday they were "closed for farming" and yesterday they were "closed for Covid testing."

We watched some preening oyster catchers on the resort beach:

Nick overheard someone at the marina talking about missing ten dockcarts. Yesterday morning, I saw a guy dragging a hook along the dock sides. Then we saw this:
One down, nine to go?

We'll continue to monitor conditions. The weather has changed and some rain is expected.
