Summer Cruise 2021 | The Sierra Leg | Days 5 & 6

ToG made the trip from La Conner to Cypress on Thursday. Kurt at AT recommended Eagle Harbor rather than Pelican Beach for DNR buoy moorage (more protected). There were a couple of balls open so we grabbed one and then headed to shore for a hike.

Cypress Island has an extensive trail system and we picked a loop that took us by Duck Lake.

Lots of lily pads; no ducks:

Rustic bench:

Sierra and Nick kayaking back to ToG:

We had a pretty rocky night. The small harbor is wide open to the east, so just the momentum of tidal change over a long stretch is enough to send a boat rolling and create small slapping wavelets against the hull. Not the greatest night's sleep but we'll add this spot to our return visit list.

Yesterday's crossing of Rosario Strait was fairly calm and we arrived at Sucia at lunch time. Like our last visit, we headed to the northwest corner to Shallow Bay. There was just one buoy left...the same one we grabbed on our last visit, right at the mouth of the bay. I can only see 4 balls but there are at least another 20 boats anchored.

Sierra hung out on the boat and Nick and I kayaked and took a short hike to Fossil Bay.

Barred owl:

Yep, that's a bottle cap on a wine bottle!
Another spectacular Sucia sunset:
We'll spend another night here in Shallow Bay...
