Quartermaster Harbor & Home

Staying cool on a boat in 100+ degree weather may be a challenge, so we decided to head home to weather the heat wave.

But first, we left Oro Bay for Quartermaster Harbor. We've been there before but just for a quick picnic at Dockton Park. This time we anchored near the marina. It was quite nice, although we wonder why the island doesn't make an attempt to make the small village of Burton more welcoming to boaters. The private marina posts several "no trespassing" signs and there is no local access.

So we paddled our kayaks around the bend to Jensen Point Park, then walked a trail through Burton Park, then walked the road to the town. Glad we did it, enjoyed the adventure, probably won't do it again.

The anchorage was great, though, and it's a nice place to visit in the general Tacoma area.

Nice to see the Lady Washington in the Foss Waterway when we returned.
