Gittin' While the Gitten's Good

While we were in Friday Harbor, we rode our bikes to Roche Harbor – cold. The highlight was stopping at Wescott Bay Seafood for oysters!

Caught the lit-up tower of the CG cutter Osprey early one morning.

We made the short cruise from Friday Harbor to Fisherman Bay yesterday, pulling into the Islands Marine Center guest docks.

Not much going on in Lopez Village this time of year, especially on a Sunday (Bucky’s is still closed for the season .) It was a nice day and we took a couple of long walks around town, and a dinghy ride.

“Next door” at the Islander Resort was the most eclectic assortment of boats I have ever seen in one place. Not sure what is going on but it can’t be a coincidence. Some kind of rendezvous? Are they always here in the off season? We do think that Fisherman Bay is home to some interesting boats, based on past experience, but these are usually at anchor in the bay. These photos attempt to show the variety and downright weirdness of this collection, including a very long (100+ feet?) blue ship with a Trident Seafoods sign, a white metal boat that looks a little like a submarine, and beautiful old double-masted sailing vessel. As we always say, “whatever gets you on the water.”

As usual, we are changing plans based on weather. We wanted to cross the straight to Port Townsend this time, rather than go back through Deception or La Conner, and it looked good to get out this morning. We needed a decent tide level to leave Fisherman Bay, not too much current through Cattle Pass…and there is a small craft advisory for tonight.

It was a fairly uneventful crossing – yay!

So here we are in Point Hudson marina, Port Townsend. A bit of rain, and some wind is kicking in. We hope to stay here for two nights and then mosey south…maybe Edmonds.

Oh, on the way across Juan de Fuca, we saw puffins! Quite spectacular. I have also added the rhinoceros auklet to my sea bird recognition repertoire.
