No Baby Yet! And ToG Updates

At some point when we were waiting for both a new boat and a new baby, our friend Jeanie said, "boats and babies; they come when they come." Isn't that the truth!

Touch of Gray’s name decals were installed Thursday by Margaux of Margaux Marine Graphics. Wonderful job, as always.

We spent most of Friday with Steve from Pacific Power Group. Steve gave us an orientation on the Volvo engine, upgraded the software, and installed the cruise control feature. He needed to take the boat out to make sure everything was good on his end, which meshed perfectly with our plan to take her out for a short ride to reconfigure the Garmin software (sea trial wizard). I was a bit nervous, so was very happy to have an additional, experienced, person on board.

Steve is a wealth of information and we learned a lot…about a lot of things.

I decided to take her out of the slip – my usual job. As stated above, I was nervous…but confident that I could at least get started, and then hand over the helm if I needed to. We got off to a bit of a rocky start, as Nick forgot to untie the second bow line. Completely understandable, as this is a new “tie” for us – we have only used a second bow line once, that I can remember. After that things went fairly well. Of course, I relied on the thrusters more than I should have, but I’ll get used to it.

Man, it felt good to be on the water again!!!

Everything checked out nicely. As we headed back into the waterway, the houseboat permanently moored on the east shore of the Foss was coming out. I don’t think they move that boat very often and it was fun to watch her go by.

Our good buddy Steve Z. made us this awesome table out of reclaimed teak! We love it and will no doubt use it a lot.

We made a quick trip to Fisheries Supply yesterday to pick up a few more necessities...lines being high on the list. This new boat came with 1/2-inch (or so) twisted dock lines, and we really don’t like them. So, 5/8-inch double braided it is. Nick also purchased a Garmin Stryker Vivid fish finder for the dinghy. We got fender covers, a 4-pack of adult life jackets, a LifeSling, and a couple of small items.

It’s Sunday and the weather is absolutely dreadful (hailing as I type) so we are hunkered down. Little baby Ren Richard Mott is coming soon, whether he wants to or not. Mommy is scheduled to have labor induced Wednesday afternoon so we’ll have Mac until mom, dad, and new baby are home and settled. We have a tentative appointment Wednesday morning to pick up our new dinghy in Gig Harbor…more about that later.

Life feels a bit complicated all of the sudden…in good ways.
